Original U.S. WWII M3 6x30 Binoculars by Westinghouse with M17 Leather Case - Dated 1942

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The M3, M13 and M13A1 binoculars were issued to all branches of the U.S. military during WW2. The M3 was the first model, which was acceptable, but was superseded by the M13 and M13A1, which resolved issues with the M3, particularly with regard to water proofing. The later models also introduced coated optics to reduce glare.A total of 43,378 were made at an original price of $72/ea., however the majority were the later versions, and many M3s were removed from service once damaged by water. For this reason the M3s are harder to find on the market.

This example is marked clearly on the left plate with BINOCULAR / M3 / 6 X 30 , and the right plate is marked with manufacturer and date: WESTINGHOUSE / 1942 H.M.R. On the end of the hinge they are marked with serial number NO. 144618.

This example is offered in very good condition with clear optics and an original brown leather CASE, CARRYING, M17, unfortunately without should strap. These are often found without a case making this pair a hard to find set. One of the screws on the left plate is missing. The focus diopters both function and turn easily. The textured covering on the set is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips, and the original leather neck strap is intact, though worn.

A great chance to own a bit of optical history.
