Original Item: Only One Available. This is what we've all been waiting for! A real WWII manufactured U.S. Browning M2HB .50cal Display Machine Gun, complete with an original WWII dated tripod and some great accessories!
This fantastic example is built around on a BATF compliant ORIGINAL WWII PRODUCTION re-welded demilitarized receiver. The gun was completely torch cut through both side plates and the floor plate. It then had the functional camming portion of the right side plate cut away, rendering it inert and non-functional. Some of the internal components were torch cut through as well. This receiver was then re-welded using deactivated internal components and painted with our lovely gunmetal gray spray paint to give it a fantastic look. Original parts were then mounted onto the receiver to create this lovely display machine gun, resulting in a display machine gun totally legal to own without a license of any kind.
All of the parts are USGI issue, though it is very likely that many have been replaced over the years, as these were in service for decades. We have read many stories of service members talking about how the most reliable "Ma Deuce" they have is WWII production. This is one reason that they are available so seldom on the market: they are still perfectly fit for service. The barrel on this display gun is 100% original and live, and can also be removed from the display receiver easily. It is fitted with the correct carry handle as well. The top cover still opens, the trigger still moves, and the sights do as well.
The original front section of the right side plate is still faintly marked under the feed tray with WWII production information:
BROWNING MACHINE GUN CAL. 50 M2
MANUFACTURED BY
AC SPARK PLUG DIVISION - GENERAL MOTORS
FLINT, MICHIGAN U.S.A.
Under this are very small and faint patent markings, a testament to the many innovations that led to the creation of arguably the best heavy machine gun ever made. To the right of this are U.S inspector markings, which are definitely a bit easier to read, and there also looks to be a serial number marking,
This "Ma Deuce" comes complete with an original 1943 dated WWII M3 Tripod, which is also marked R. I. A. on the central hub for Rock Island Arsenal, the "Arsenal of Democracy in Illinois. It has a correct USGI issue pintle, however the T&E is USGI but for an M1919 browning, which is why it is fully extended. The tripod has a lovely OD green finish on it, which could be the original WWII finish, or it may have been repainted at some point. We checked the functionality, and all three legs extend correctly and have intact locking levers, and the central bar still locks in place. The pintle catch is also fully functional, making this really a great example. The M2HB is STILL the heavy machine gun of choice for the U.S. military, as well as many other militaries around the world, so these tripods are still in service, which is one of the reasons they are so hard to find.
Included with this great set is short 38 round length disintegrating belt of inert drill .50 BMG cartridges, stored in a lovely USGI issue 110 round ammo chest. Also included are a stripped rear back plate, as well as a top cover plate for the rear top cover, used when there is no rear sight in place. These all fit nicely inside the ammo crate, so they can be displayed or kept in storage.
A fantastic opportunity to own a BATF compliant WWII production inert display gun of one of the most enduring machine gun designs in history! Ready to display!
The M2 machine gun or Browning .50 caliber machine gun (informally, "Ma Deuce") is a heavy machine gun that was designed towards the end of World War I by John Browning. Its design is similar to Browning's earlier M1919 Browning machine gun, which was chambered for the .30-06 cartridge. The M2 uses Browning's larger and more powerful .50 BMG (12.7 mm) cartridge. The design has had many designations; the official U.S. military designation for the current infantry type is Browning Machine Gun, Cal. .50, M2, HB, Flexible. It is effective against infantry, unarmored or lightly armored vehicles and boats, light fortifications, and low-flying aircraft.
The gun has been used extensively as a vehicle weapon and for aircraft armament by the United States since the 1930s. It was heavily used during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Falklands War, the Soviet–Afghan War, the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan. It is the primary heavy machine gun of NATO countries and has been used by many other countries as well. U.S. forces have used the M2 longer than any other firearm except the .45 ACP M1911 pistol, which was also designed by John Browning.
The current M2HB (heavy barrel) is manufactured in the U.S. by General Dynamics Ohio Ordnance Works, and U.S. Ordnance for use by the U.S. government, and for allies via Foreign Military Sales, as well as by foreign manufacturers such as FN Herstal.
