Original Item. Only One Available. This is an extremely scarce U.S. WWII M-2 Individual Medical Jungle Kit, complete with its original contents. Introduced in 1944 for troops serving in jungle environments, the kit is housed in an olive-drab canvas pouch that remains in excellent condition. The pouch is clearly maker-marked and dated:
J. A. SHOE
1944
The kit contains the following:
● 1944-dated olive-drab canvas pouch
● One empty 2cc vial of Tincture of Iodine, U.S.P. XIII, with a fully readable label in excellent condition
● One small glass bottle containing unidentified pills; the wax seal is broken, but the cap remains tightly sealed
● One empty small tube with bright yellow residue, possibly from Atabrine tablets
● One full 2 fl. oz. glass bottle of insect repellent, with a fully readable label in excellent condition
● One first-aid dressing packet contained in its original cardboard box
The M-2 Individual Medical Jungle Kit replaced the earlier M-1 pattern, which had proven impractical due to its large size and positioning, often leaving it difficult for the wearer to reach. Introduced in 1944, the more compact M-2 design was immediately successful and was used by both U.S. Army and Marine Corps personnel.
The pouch was designed to hook into the eyelets of either a pistol belt or cartridge belt, keeping the medical supplies within easy reach. It could be opened and closed using two press studs. Although the kit was issued with a standard assortment of medical supplies, soldiers sometimes modified the contents according to their personal preferences, experience, or foresight.
An exceptionally scarce and well-preserved pouch, desirable for retaining its original pouch and remarkably complete assortment of medical contents.
The items in this kit are NOT SUITABLE FOR ACTUAL MEDICAL USE.
