  • Original Item: Only One Set Available. Deactivated to BATF specifications and is totally inert and incapable of firing a round. Not Available for Export.

This is a genuine United States manufactured WWII M2 mortar tube with WWII issue bipod, base plate, barrel sling, shoulder carrying pads, and bore-cleaning brush pieces. It also comes with the very hard to find 1943-dated M4 mortar sight in its original M14 carrying case!

Our non-firing display Mortar is offered in excellent condition, with lots of markings to research and explore. Unlike many offerings, this has an original tube and base cup with markings, both demilitarized to BATF specifications. The firing pin has been removed from the base cup, a hole made in the side of the base cup, a bore width hole made in the side of the tube, and a steel bar welded across the muzzle per BATF requirements.

    The base cup markings read:

    PART #: B8465
    MORTAR, 60MM. M2. NO. 29827
    ORD. DEPT. U.S.A.
    A.T.F.
    12.25 LBS

It also features an original adjustable M5 bipod mount and original base plate. The T&E mechanism works well, the leg angle adjustment works correctly, though it is a bit stiff at times.

The data plate on the bipod reads:

    MORTAR MOUNT
    60MM. M5, NO. 42385
    ORD. DEPT. U.S.A.
KVS MFG. & ENG. CO. 1945
    INSP. C11PA

There are also part numbers and maker marks on various parts of the bipod mount, which are clearly visible. The set assembles correctly, and can be adjusted for traverse and elevation.

The M4 optical sight is dated 1943 with serial number 59888. It comes in its original M14 carrying case manufactured by Milwaukee Saddlery Co. The shoulder carrying pads are unmarked besides being marked Left and Right. The bore-cleaning brush set is missing the rod that it would attach to in order to be used.

This is truly a remarkable piece, and would make a great centerpiece to any WWII collection. Ready to display!

The U.S. M2 60 mm mortar was developed from the heavier 81 mm M1 Mortar to provide a lighter-weight alternative to company-level fire support. The M2 attempted to bridge the gap between the 81 mm mortar and the hand grenade. Normally employed by the weapons platoon of a U.S. infantry company, the M2 is of the usual mortar pattern of the day. It consists of a smoothbore metal tube on a rectangular baseplate, supported by a simple bipod with the elevation and traverse mechanisms. The firing pin was fixed in the base cap of the tube, and the bomb was fired automatically when it dropped down the barrel. Though classed as a light mortar, the M2 had considerable range compared to the 50 mm and 60 mm mortars of most other nations, and its fixed-firing pin design allowed a high rate of fire by trained crews. The M2 Mortar was used throughout World War II by the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps.
