Original U.S. WWII M17A1 7x50 Binoculars with Coated Optics in M44 Leather Case

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The M17A1 was one of the last versions of large 7x50 binoculars used by the U.S. Military during WWII. These followed the M15, M15A1, M16, and M17 types. They were known for their nice wide field, and were used by all branches. Post war, many of these were painted OD Green, including the leather case and neck strap, and this is one such example. This unfortunately removed some of the markings, but definitely increased the camouflage ability.

This example is marked clearly on the left plate with 7 X 50 , and the right plate is marked with manufacturer and date: BINOCULAR, M17 A1 / STOCK NO.7578344. The "A1" is off to the right of the main marking, which would indicate that the binoculars were updated to the M17A1 pattern, or that they were transitional model. On the end of the hinge they are marked with serial number NO. 8841. The binoculars definitely have coated optics that we can see, however when refinished the decal was most likely removed.

This example is offered in very good condition with clear optics and an original leather CASE, CARRYING, M44, with the hard to find shoulder strap. It is marked with stock number D-43813 on the front of the body, under the lid. There is some wear to the green paint job, mainly in the wear areas. These are often found without a case making this pair a hard to find set.

The focus diopters both function and turn easily, and the left side has a nice ranging reticle. The textured covering on the set is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips. The binoculars still have their original leather neck strap. another hard to find item.

A great chance to own a bit of optical history.
