Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice 1943- dated U.S. M17 Elbow Telescope, used with the standard M1917 155mm Howitzer, the French-designed Canon de 155 C modèle 1917 Schneider. The telescope was used to aim the canon properly in various conditions.
The metal data plate on the sight reads:
TELESCOPE, ELBOW
M17
NO. ????? ?????
MINNEAPOLIS HONEYWELL REG. CO. 1943
The data plate is oxidized, so unfortunately the serial number and other stamped in information can no longer be read. The telescope is however otherwise in very good condition. It has clear optics, with an intact crosshair reticle, and all four selectable filters are still present and functional: RED CLEAR NEUTRAL & AMBER. This allows for accurate sighting during both the day and night. The focus on the eyepiece still works great, and the original rubber eyepiece hood is even still intact! It does have some cracking, but is still relatively soft.
There is an attachment for an electrical cable for the internal light, however we do not know if this is still functional, as we have no way to test it.
An interesting piece of U.S. optical equipment, ready to add to your collection!
