  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a stellar WWII ammunition crate for M1 Garand ammunition, Cal .30-06. There are markings across the crate that provide for a magnificent display piece. The crate is missing the lid, and the front indicates that the cartridges are loaded in 8 round en-bloc clips in bandoleers, ready to issue for use. AN-M2 means Army Navy M2 Ball, which is the type of .30-06 ammo used during WWII.

The front of the crate reads:

    384 CARTRIDGES CAL .30
    IN 8RD CLIPS BANDOLEERS
    1305-028-6529-A216
    TAEGA
    BALL AN-M2 (FLAMING BOMB)
    40 WT
    .75 CU LOT RA

And the back of the crate reads:

    USPAFO FOR N.Y.
    204 64TH ST.
    BROOKLYN, N.Y.
    M/F SEC. AMMO. WHSE.
    0000-069-0769-198

This indicates the crate was meant to store ammunition in the armory located in Brooklyn on 64th Street during this period. The crate has metal bands around the two sides. A great display piece ready for further research and display.

    The crate measures 15 x 10½ x 7½”.

    M1 Garand
The M1 Garand or M1 Rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was the United States' service rifle during World War II and the Korean War.

The rifle is chambered for the .30-06 Springfield cartridge and is named after its Canadian-American designer, John Garand. It was the first standard-issue autoloading rifle for the United States. By most accounts, the M1 rifle performed well.

General George S. Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised". The M1 replaced the bolt-action M1903 Springfield as the U.S.' service rifle in 1936, and was itself replaced by the selective-fire M14 rifle on March 26, 1958.
