  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very unique piece that we haven’t had an example of before, the back end of an M1 Garand rifle stock cutaway to instruct the storage of the rifle cleaning kit. The cut is very clean. The stock includes the full cleaning kit with the yellow tube, small tube of cosmoline, and bag of pieces to assemble the cleaning rod. It also displays the structure of the back swing swivel.

The stock measures roughly 13½“, and is cut off cleanly shortly past the cutout for the trigger assembly. The depot P stamp is present. The bag of cleaning rod pieces is labeled CASE, B098-7267754. All pieces of the cleaning rod are still retained. The buttplate still functions and opens easily. The opposite side of the stock bears the rack number 2236.

The M1 Garand or M1 rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was the service rifle of the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. The rifle is chambered for the .30-06 Springfield cartridge and is named after its Canadian-American designer, John Garand. It was the first standard-issue autoloading rifle for the United States. By most accounts, the M1 rifle performed well. General George S. Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised". The M1 replaced the bolt-action M1903 Springfield as the U.S.' service rifle in 1936, and was itself replaced by the selective-fire M14 rifle on March 26, 1958.

This is a very rare piece of militaria that will display well in any WWII or Garand collection. They are sometimes on display at shows but rarely come up for sale. Don’t miss it!
