Original U.S. WWII M-1938 Wire Cutters With Canvas Carrier With Front Button Snap

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Set Available. During World War I and World War II, barbed wire was a common obstacle in the trenches that hindered forward progress. Miles and miles of suspended wire were strung along both sides, and there was no way to cross "No Man's Land" without getting through it. Various devices such as explosives and complicated cutters mounted on the muzzles of rifles were used to cut the wire. However, the most reliable and effective way to get through it remained hand-held wire cutters like the set we offer here. This method was also useful during World War II, which saw more technological advances. Hand-held wire cutters were useful for cutting communication wires, booby traps, electrical components and brake lines on vehicles if one could get close enough!

This lovely set measures approximately 9¼” in total length with an opening of ⅜” and ⅞” cutting edge. The mechanics of the cutters are still solid though the edge does have a nick in it, most likely caused from cutting material that these were not intended to cut through. The set is stamped U.S. / W.S. CO. / 1945 and is in great overall shape.

The original canvas carrier is in good condition stamped R.M.T. CO. / 1942.

This is a great scarce set of WWII wire cutters ready for further research and display.
