  • Original Item: Only One Available. The LC-14-B Woodman's Pal survival axe was originally a tool for forestry or agriculture, but quickly earned a place as an outstanding military implement. The well designed and balanced blade was first procured in World War II, and was useful for brush clearing, construction, camouflage, and a multitude of other listed uses. The LC-14-B Woodman's Pal served through the Vietnam War and is still part of the military inventory of edged tools in the 21st Century. This example is in very good condition, and is still quite sharp! The stacked leather handle is intact, and in good shape.

    The blade itself is marked:

    WOODMAN'S PAL
    280
TRADE MARK - PAT. APPL'D FOR
VICTOR TOOL CO. - READING, PA.

It is further marked on the outside of the handguard with LC-14-B. The absence of a patent number on the blade indicates production before 11-30-1943, when the patent was approved. The belt scabbard is also marked on the interior, though part of the scabbard patent number is obscured by dirt:

    LC - 14 - B
    U.S. PAT. 133851 MFG. BY
    VICTOR TOOL COMPANY
    READING, PA.

The scabbard is fully functional, with all snaps and the zipper still intact, and is quite nice. It does however have significant wear on the lower corner, which appears to be from service and use, as the scabbard would rub on the uniform and catch on brush. The zipper is intact and functional. The double-sided round whetstone is included in the correct pocket, however it is worn on both sides, indicating significant use with the tool. The other interior pocket contains a packet with the Victor Tool logo, which is marked EMERGENCY KIT. Inside is one fishing line with two hooks (still very sharp!!!), along with a small booklet called:LIVING IN THE JUNGLE WITH U.S. ARMY KNIFE LC-14-B (THE WOODMAN'S PAL), written by Frederick Ehrsam, C.E., and copyrighted 1943. The booklet, packet, and fishing line with hooks are all in great shape.

Overall this is a great chance to own a classic survival tool from WWII, complete with the original scabbard and emergency kit.
