Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The LC-14-B Woodman's Pal survival axe was originally a tool for forestry or agriculture, but quickly earned a place as an outstanding military implement. The well designed and balanced blade was first procured in World War II, and was useful for brush clearing, construction, camouflage, and a multitude of other listed uses. The LC-14-B Woodman's Pal served through the Vietnam War and is still part of the military inventory of edged tools in the 21st Century. This example is in excellent condition, and has recently been sharpened, making it quite attractive (and very sharp!). The stacked leather handle is intact, and in good shape.

The blade itself is marked:

WOODMAN'S PAL
280
TRADE MARK - PAT. #2335497
VICTOR TOOL CO. - READING, PA.

It is further marked on the outside of the handguard with LC-14-B. The presence of a patent number on the blade indicates production after 11-30-1943, when the patent was approved. The belt scabbard is also marked on the interior, though part of the scabbard patent number is obscured by dirt:

LC - 14 - B
U.S. PAT. 133851 MFG. BY
VICTOR TOOL COMPANY
READING, PA.

The scabbard is fully functional, with all snaps and the zipper still intact, and is quite clean. Very little in the way of dirt stains. The leather pull tab on the zipper is broken off, but could easily be replaced. The double-sided round whetstone is included in the correct pocket, and still has the Victor Tool logo on it. The other interior pockets still contains three small manuals: CARE, USE AND SHARPENING OF KNIFE LC-14-B, FIGHTING WITH U.S.A. KNIFE LC-14-B (THE WOODMAN'S PAL), and LIVING IN THE JUNGLE WITH U.S. ARMY KNIFE LC-14-B (THE WOODMAN'S PAL), all written by Frederick Ehrsam, C.E., and copyrighted 1942 or 1943. All three booklets are in great shape, with minimal staining, and still have all their pages.

Overall this is a great chance to own a classic survival tool from WWII, complete with the original scabbard and manuals.
