Original U.S. WWII Late War M1 McCord Front Seam Helmet with CAPAC Liner and Net with Manual

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a genuine WWII M1 Helmet with complete liner, which has been equipped with an original WWII issue helmet net, which comes with the original manual.

The U.S. WWII M-1 helmet was only produced from 1941 to 1945. The first production batch resulted with over 323,510 M-1 helmets before the start of the American involvement in the war. The Ordnance Department selected McCord Radiator and Manufacturing Company of Detroit Michigan to produce the steel M1 helmet bodies. These bodies were made from a single piece of Hadfield Manganese steel that was produced by the Carnegie-Illinois & Sharon Steel Corporations. Each completed raw M-1 helmet shell weighed 2.25 lbs each.

This fantastic condition M1 shell has correct late war swivel (movable) chinstrap loops called "bales" and a stainless steel rim. These rims were both rust resistant and had "non-magnetic qualities" that reduced the chance of error readings when placed around certain sensitive equipment (such as a compass). The helmet shell was repainted at arsenal, which unfortunately has obscured the heat lot, so we cannot determine accurately the manufacture date. However the swivel bales were introduced in October 1943, and the front seam was discontinued in Octover 1944, so it was manufactured during that time period.

This helmet is a fine example and still retains all of its original WW2 parts. The original "corked grain" of the paint can still be seen, even with the repainted shell. Also included is an excellent condition WWII Issue NET, HELMET, with BAND, which is mounted to the helmet, and even comes with the original manual tag. Unlike the improvised helmet nets used by many, this one is official issue, with a great thick weave, and an elastic band under it, which helmets secure it to the helmet. This also allows the net to be "let out" at the back, kind of like a neck guard.

The liner is correct "high pressure" WWII issue and stamped with the CAPAC Manufacturing Company logo with frontal eyelet. Manufactured in Capac, Michigan this "high pressure" manufactured M-1 helmet liner is identified by an embossed "cross" with the words "Capac" in the crown. Capac Manufacturing Company started M-1 helmet liner delivery to the US Army in September 1942. They produced approximately between 2,000,000 - 4,000,000 M-1 helmet liners and discontinued production around August 17 1945 when the war ended.

This true US WWII M-1 helmet liner be identified through the frontal eyelet hole. Other correct WW2 features include cotton herringbone twill (HBT) cloth suspension liner. This HBT suspension is held tightly within the M-1 helmet liner by rivets and a series of triangular "A" washers. The three upper suspension bands are joined together with a shoestring. This way the wearer could adjust the fit. There is also an original 1945-dated sweatband installed, with all the intact spring clips. The shell chin strap is original, and in good condition.

An excellent genuine WWII issue helmet perfect for any collection, with all the parts and a great helmet net! Examples this good do not come by often at all!
