Original Item: Only One Available. The M2 4.2-inch mortar was a U.S. rifled 4.2-inch (107 mm) mortar used during the Second World War, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It entered service in 1943. It was nicknamed the "Goon Gun" (from its large bullet-shaped shells, monopod, and rifled bore) or the "Four-Deuce" (from its bore size in inches). In 1951, it began to be phased out in favor of the M30 mortar of the same caliber. Not Available for Export. This is a heavily worn and inert 4.2” chemical mortar round is now entirely void of any markings we could find, due to what appears to be numerous repaints and extremely heavy wear overall. The round measures 23¼” long. The fuze unscrews to allow for inspection of the interior, but the fuze has no markings we could find besides an R. The side of the round certainly originally had stamped markings, but there are none left we could see. Due to this, we aren’t sure if this example was WWII or Korean War era. Someone could strip the paint to figure that out, but we’ll leave that choice up to the buyer.A great worn example, ready for further research and display.
