Original U.S. WWII / Korean War Era Large 29th Infantry Division Grouping Featuring M-1943 Jacket and Over 100 Items - MSGT. F. Burman

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Grouping Available. Formed in 1917, the division deployed to France as a part of the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. Called up for service again in World War II, the division's 116th Regiment, attached to the First Infantry Division, was in the first wave of troops ashore during Operation Neptune, the landings in Normandy, France. It supported a special Ranger unit tasked with clearing strong points at Omaha Beach. The rest of the 29th ID came ashore later, then advanced to Saint-Lô, and eventually through France and into Germany.

Following the end of World War II, the division saw frequent reorganizations and deactivations. Although the 29th did not see combat through most of the next 50 years, it participated in numerous training exercises throughout the world.

The grouping features a lovely service worn M1943 field jacket. The Jacket, Field, M1943 was standardized field jacket issued to Army soldiers in WWII. It was longer than the M-1941 jacket, coming down to the upper thighs. It was made in a light olive-drab OD7, later a darker OD9 cotton sateen. It also had a detachable hood, drawstring waist, two large breast pockets and two skirt pockets. There are a few tears in the jacket but nothing too damaging.

Other items include an unbelievable amount of uniform insignia, patches, awards and field equipment such as a canteen set and medic pouch set. There are a few replacement medals featured such as the Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star Medal, but unfortunately they are not engraved.

All of the items are in lovely condition and is honestly a very large insignia based grouping, perfect for the amateur as well as seasoned collector. A lovely grouping that comes more than ready for further research and display.
