Original U.S. WWII Brigadier General Raymond G. Moses Summer Khaki Service Uniform Coat - Staff Officer For D-Day Planning

Item Description

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This uniform coat is not only appealing to the eye but is also of great historical significance. Despite appearing to be a standard Brigadier-General's WWII dated “Summer Khaki” uniform coat, there are a few distinctive features that set it apart from others. The uniform belonged to Brigadier General Raymond G. Moses. The uniform itself is in excellent condition and boasts impressive devices, a “sewn on” ribbon rack and a bullion embroidered SSI, making it truly stand out. While we have not been able to source much information on General Moses, we do know that during the critical period of the reorganization of the Army and the War Department, and the preliminary deployment of forces overseas, General Moses served as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4, of the War Department General Staff, from March 1942 to September 1943. He also served later on in this position on the General Staff for the planning of the D-Day invasion.

What makes this uniform truly stand out is the “Advanced Section Communications Zone European Theater of Operations” bullion embroidered shoulder sleeve insignia. The patch represents the Allies breaking the chains of NSDAP oppression. The patch is similar to the ETOUSA patch with the addition of the blue 5 pointed star in the white six lobed field. This blue star in white field is the emblem of the Services of Supply organization. The Advance Section of the Com-Z, (which formed 10% of the organization), advanced closely behind the US Armies.

The jacket boasts several unique features that set it apart from other military jackets. The obvious General star device on the epaulets are particularly noteworthy, as they indicate the 4th highest rank possible in the US Army and are just beautiful bullion examples. A medal ribbon bar is also present on the jacket, which would have been used to display the General's various military honors and awards, which all appear to be correct and present.

While only the service coat is not named in a “glorious” manner, it does however have the name “Moses” written in ink on the interior pocket. The uniform coat is in excellent condition, with no visible signs of extensive wear or damage.

A wonderful, historical uniform set that comes with research and more than ready for further research and display.
