Original U.S. WWII Iwo Jima Corpsman Pharmacist Mate Jumper 4th Marine Division - As Seen In Book

Item Description

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This very uniform is featured on page 102 in the book U.S. Navy Uniforms in World War II Series: Weapons, Equipment, Insignia: Submarine Service, PT Boats, Coast Guard, Other Sea Services, Volume 6 by Jeff Warner. In fact this set was purchased by IMA from the estate of Mr. Warner along with much of his personal collection.

The dress blue uniform of a Machinist's Mate first class assigned to a PT boat squadron. Note the Mosquito Boat shoulder patch and "PT" distinguishing mark worn between the wrist and elbow. The PT distinguishing mark seen here was authorized August 1943 and was worn prior to the Mosquito I and PT Boat shoulder patches, authorized in September 1944. Like the Seabee insignia worn prior to introduction of the color Seabees shoulder patch, earlier type insignia was often left on the uniform worn together with the new shoulder patch, as seem this example. The letters "PT" are shown within a diamond shaped border here however, larger letters without a border were also worn in the same manner. (J. Warner)
