Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of an American MkII “Pineapple” grenade. This example is eye-catching due to the areas of original paint including the original yellow painted band at the top, and the visible underlying yellow paint from when it was a high explosive example.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
The Mk II was commonly known as a pineapple grenade, because of its shape and structure. Grooves were cast into the cast iron shell, which was believed at the time to aid in fragmentation and had the side benefit of aiding in gripping the grenade; this provision gave it the appearance of a pineapple fruit. The Mk II was identified with an all yellow body prior to 1943. They were then painted olive drab for camouflage purposes with a narrow yellow band below the fuse.
This example is in excellent condition with most of the original paint still present, as well as a visible yellow band around the neck and visible yellow underneath the green from when it was an early high explosive example. This is one of the best examples we have seen in a while. The fuze is ink-stamped on the top:
FUZE M10A3
LOT EK-
1-286
The fuse still unscrews easily and retains most of its paint though the leather washer is missing. The body is stamped ‘AF’ indicating manufacture by the American Fireworks Company.
