  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent original U.S. WWII Mk II fragmentation hand grenade, commonly known as the “Pineapple” grenade, retaining substantial original olive-drab finish together with a clearly visible yellow High Explosive identification band around the neck. The grenade is completely inert and is fitted with what appears to be an original WWII M10A3 fuze, still retaining its leather washer.

Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.

The Mk II was commonly known as a pineapple grenade, because of its shape and structure. Grooves were cast into the cast iron shell, which was believed at the time to aid in fragmentation and had the side benefit of aiding in gripping the grenade; this provision gave it the appearance of a pineapple fruit. The Mk II was identified with an all yellow body prior to 1943. They were then painted olive drab for camouflage purposes with a narrow yellow band below the fuse.

This example is in excellent condition with much of the original paint still present, as well as a great visible yellow band around the neck. There is loss of the green paint on the fragmentation panels. The fuze is faintly ink-stamped on the top:

    … M 0…
    LOT EK-
    1-230

It is very likely an M10A3. The fuse still unscrews easily and retains most of its paint and the leather washer which is stuck to the fuze. The body is stamped A over 5.

The combination of the original olive-drab wartime finish, prominent yellow High Explosive band, A over 5 body marking, likely M10A3 fuze with EK lot marking, removable fuze, and surviving leather washer makes this a particularly strong example of the classic American WWII Mk II fragmentation grenade.
