Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. The 75mm cartridge case M5A1 was made for use with the 75mm Pack Howitzer M1 (redesignated the M116 in 1962). This U.S. WWII 75mm M5A1 Type I is fitted with an Armor Piercing Mk 29 Mod 2 Projectile, complete with nose cone.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
The gun saw combat in World War II with the United States Army (primarily used by airborne units),[citation needed] with the United States Marine Corps, and was also supplied to foreign forces.
In addition to the pack / air portable configuration, the gun was mounted on a conventional carriage to serve as a field artillery piece. The M2 and M3 are derived vehicle-mounted howitzers used in the 75mm HMC M8 and some LVT models. In addition, the M1 in its original version was mated to a number of other self-propelled carriages, though only one of those – 75mm HMC T30 – reached mass production.
This example still retains much of the original colors though they may have been touched up at some point. It is in wonderful condition and would fit into any ordnance collection very well.
Comes ready for further research and display.
