Original Item. Only One Available. This is an interesting set of 10 maps in a folder for the Study of Kyushu, Japan in the hopes that a successful invasion could be planned. This proposed invasion was known as “Operation Downfall”.
Unfortunately this set is missing all of the actual planning documentation, and only retains the ten maps included in the set.
The cover shows that the plans came from the Headquarters, U.S. Armed Forces, Middle Pacific, Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2, APO 958. The set was SECRET at one point during the war but was later downgraded to RESTRICTED.
The ten maps included are:
- Kokura, Sheet 45
- Sasebo, Sheet 44
- Oita, Sheet 46
- Nagasaki, Sheet 55
- Kumamoto, Sheet 56
- Nobeoka, Sheet 57
- Map of Japan, Sheet No. 1267-1
- Toi-Misaki, Sheet 62
- Kagoshima, Sheet 61
- Koshiki-Retto, Sheet 60
An outstanding set with a great cover for display. The cover sheets show heavy tearing but will still look great. Folded up the plans measure approximately 9"W x 14 1/2"H.
