Original U.S. WWII Homefront Wooden Anti-Japanese "Krak-a-Jap" Wooden Toy "75M" Gun Cannon

Item Description

Original Item: Only one available. The attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 ignited not only anger towards the enemy, it also sparked a wildfire of patriotism in every American in all corners of the country. As the war effort was kicked into overdrive, Americans did everything they could to remind each other why they were fighting and what could be lost.

This is a prime example of one of the Anti-Japanese propaganda pieces, a toy "KRAK-A-JAP" Toy Wooden Cannon. There were various different makers and styles for these toys, which were made almost completely out of wood, which was plentiful and a "non-essential material" during the war, so it could be used freely without rationing. The toy cannon is painted with a lovely period OD green color, and is missing some of the original maker’s label on the breech end of the barrel, which from another example we had reads:

KRAK-A-JAP
"75 M" GUN
TRADE MARK REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE
NEW ENTERPRISES
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.

The cannon has a 10 inch barrel, measuring 17 inches in overall length, the wheels really move. There is also a crank on the right side, which causes a square piece of wood to pull back a metal spring, which then snaps forward, "firing" the toy cannon. This example is in fair condition and displays well.

A lovely U.S. WWII Homefront toy, ready to add to your collection!
