Original Items: Only One Lot of 2 Available. The unannounced strike on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 sent a deep shock-wave through America and its people. The country went to war in earnest, roused to avenge those lost in the sneak attack.

Soon after President Franklin D Roosevelt had proclaimed 7 December ‘a date which will live in infamy’, anti-Japanese paraphernalia and propaganda surfaced across the United States. In late 1941, the American Legion, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, formed the “Slap-A-Jap Club”. The public was encouraged to join by purchasing one 25c Defense Stamp per week for the duration of the war and these “Club Cards” were made.

The club card features Uncle Sam slapping a Japanese soldier armed with a knife. The reverse of the card states:

“The idea of this “Club” is purely
Patriotic, with no thought of cashing
in from a necessary point.
When you buy 25c “DEFENSE
STAMP”, you are making a DIRECT
DONATION to the UNITED STATES
“WAR FUND”, as this stamp will
never be cashed in.”

The other item is another form of propaganda, the “Jap Hunting License” button. The button is all white with a thing blue border and the following in red bold lettering:

JAP
HUNTING
LICENSE
OPEN SEASON-NO LIMIT

Both items are in good condition and free of extensive damage.
