Original Item: Only One Available: This a very rare fully functional (and loud) U.S. WWII Hand Crank Air Raid Siren, complete with the original added front horn piece. These almost always come without the front horn, making this a very scarce example. It still functions very well.
The siren is maker marked on the reverse:
FEDERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC
CHICAGO
It is also marked on the crank handle H5561 FEDERAL 1754. Constructed predominantly of aluminum with integral one piece carry handle and crank handle. These were originally painted OD green, however the paint does not stick to the aluminum very well as it oxidizes, so often these are missing a lot of the paint. This example still has almost all of the original paint, with just a few areas of flaking and oxidation.
These sirens were used for Air Raids and possible Gas Attacks both during combat situations and on the Home Front. This mobile handheld version is the hardest to find of any WWII siren.
The siren is in great shape overall and will function very well. Comes ready for further research and display.
