Original Item: Only One Available: This a very rare fully functional (and loud) U.S. WWII Hand Crank Air Raid Siren. It is maker marked on the reverse:
FEDERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC
CHICAGO
Constructed predominately of aluminum with integral one piece carry handle and crank handle. These were originally painted OD green, and this example still retains most of that paint with some loss in specific places. The mesh surrounding the vent holes is still in place, which is more often than not missing.
This example has the very scarce canvas cover which is in good working condition with both snaps retained. These are very difficult to find.
Shown below is another example we sold previously, which sounds just the same, though this example does not have the rare cover and sling:
These sirens were used for Air Raids and possible Gas Attacks both during combat situations and on the Home Front. This mobile handheld version is the hardest to find of any WWII siren. It comes ready for further research and display.
