Original U.S. WWII Era US Army Air Forces Aviator Wings and Submarine Warfare Badge - Lot of 3

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 3 Available. This is a fantastic grouping of WWII era Aviator wings as worn by the Pilots and Crew members aboard the various types of aircraft during and after the war. Military badges of the United States are awards authorized by the United States Armed Forces that signify rating, qualification, or accomplishment in several career fields, and also serve as identification devices for personnel occupying certain assignments. Personal recognition is granted to service members by a number of awards and decorations. Together with military decorations, such badges are authorized for wear on military uniforms.

The Badges in this Lot:
- US Army Air Forces Pilot “Wings”: During World War II, with the rise of the Army Air Forces, a second series of aviator badges were issued to include a design that has survived to the modern day. The Pilot Badge was issued in three degrees, including Pilot, Senior Pilot, and Command Pilot. A polished silver colored version of these badges is currently used as the United States Air Force Pilot Badges. This example is for a Pilot and is offered in wonderful condition with a functional pin arm and locking catch.

- Civilian Pilot Training Program Enlisted reserve Wings: Nearly identical to the Pilot Wings with the main difference being the shield, as you can see from the photos. The Civilian Pilot Training Program was a flight training program (1938–1944) sponsored by the United States government with the stated purpose of increasing the number of civilian pilots, though having a clear impact on military preparedness.

- U.S. Navy Officer Submarine Warfare Insignia “Dolphins” in Gold: Enlisted Sailors and Naval Officers wear a fish uniform breast pin to indicate that they are qualified in submarines. The Submarines insignia is considered one of the Navy's three major enlisted warfare pins, along with the Surface Warfare Badge and the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist insignia. To earn the right to wear "fish" or "dolphins", prospective submariners complete an extensive qualification process that lasts about one year (for both enlisted and officers, though the two programs differ significantly) and covers all of the submarine's systems.

A lovely set of badges ready for further research and display.
