Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good original U.S. M4 mortar sight, a compact collimator sight used with the standard American 60mm and 81mm mortar systems during WWII. The sight remains in very good overall condition with its bubble level intact and is marked SIGHT, M4 / STOCK NO. 7579927 / SERIAL NO. 126856. No carrying case is included with this example.
The M4 was already standardized by 1941 for use with the 60mm M2 mortar and 81mm M1 mortar. Period War Department technical literature describes it as a combination collimator and open sight incorporating elevation and deflection adjustments, allowing mortar crews to lay the weapon accurately for both indirect and direct fire.
This sight is in very good condition with an intact bubble level. There is no included carrying case with this example. The body is marked:

From online sources we can find, this serial number should date the sight to the end of the war, or late 1945. This is truly a remarkable piece, and would make a great addition to any WWII mortar collection.
