Original U.S. WWII Era M1902 Officer’s Sword by Bannerman of New York with Scabbard

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good original U.S. Model 1902 Army Officer’s Saber, retailed by the famous New York military-goods firm Francis Bannerman Sons, complete with its nickel-plated steel scabbard. The sword features the standard lightly curved M1902 blade with fullers, extensive etched U.S. Army decoration, nickel-plated hilt fittings, original leather blade buffer, and an uninscribed name panel that was never personalized.
The Model 1902 Army Officers' Saber is the current sword used by officers of the United States Army. The official nomenclature for the current regulation U.S. Army saber is “saber for all officers, Model 1902”. It was adopted on July 17, 1902 by authority of General Order No. 81. The M1902 saber was authorized for all officers, both infantry and cavalry, with the exception of Chaplains. The lightly curved blade measures between 30-34 inches long with weights initially specified by the U.S. Army to be between 20.2 and 22.8 ounces (573 to 647 grams) and a point of balance of 3.25 inches from the hilt as specified for infantry sabers.
This is a WWII-Era example, dating between 1935-1945. As with most, it is fully nickel plated, with a triple-etched slightly curved blade, and a nickel plated steel scabbard. The etching on the blade shows the standard heraldry of the U.S. Army with the E Pluribus Unum Eagle along with floral motifs.

This denotes manufacture by Francis Bannerman of New York. Bannerman was one of the best-known American military surplus and arms dealers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, operating an enormous mail-order business that sold firearms, swords, uniforms, artillery, military equipment, and surplus material to collectors, military personnel, organizations, and institutions throughout the United States and abroad.
The leather blade buffer is retained and the sword is overall a well-preserved example. There is no name on the blade, but there is a space for one.
The scabbard is in good order with oxidation peppering and some bubbling of the plating. The suspension rings are both retained without any major denting.
With its Bannerman New York retailer marking, extensively etched 32 1/8-inch blade, uninscribed personalization panel, original leather blade buffer, nickel-plated hilt, and complete two-ring steel scabbard, this is a strong representative example of the Model 1902 Army officer’s saber with an interesting connection to one of the most recognizable names in American militaria.
