Original U.S. WWII Era Japanese-Made Model 1852 Navy Officer’s Sword with Scabbard & Belt in Case - Raymond L. White

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a lovely U.S. Model 1852 Naval Officer’s sword manufactured in Japan in the aftermath of World War II, named on the blade to Raymond L. White, an officer we have not identified, making for a good research project. The sword comes in its original scabbard with a very worn portapee, an Officer’s belt and buckle, all contained in a period sword case.
This sword is the official United States Navy Model 1852 Pattern, and is marked U.S.N. on the blade, as well as on the hand guard. The brass mounts on the scabbard and around the bottom show Sea monsters and twisted rope knots for the hanger loop bolsters, as is required for this Pattern. The slim blade is fully etched and nickel plated, and is named Raymond L. White. The ricasso is marked with JAPAN SWORD over a Kanji character.
The pattern was in use for well over 100 years, originally starting with a wider slightly curved blade. The hilt is standard heavily sculpted brass with ray skin grip secured with brass wire. The guard basket is embossed with Oak leaves and acorns and displays the letters U.S.N. on a banner. All the brass was then gold washed/gold plated. The pommel shows an eagle surrounded by 13 Stars.
The blade is in great shape with the markings still clear. The Sword even comes with its original Portepee (Sword Knot) attached to the sword's pommel, although it is heavily worn with material loss on the knot. The Scabbard is in very good condition, with light wear to the leather covering.
The sword comes with a black Navy officer’s belt and buckle with sword attachments. We are unsure if the belt was with the sword originally. The sword is contained within a brown leather sword case which is marked on the flap with C.E.T. / U.S.N. meaning that it is not a matching set, as the initials do not correspond to the name on the blade. It is still however a nice set together.
