Original U.S. WWII Era Army M2 Message Center Clock in Case by Chelsea Clock Co.

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is genuine U.S. Army M2 message center clock, made by the Chelsea Clock Co. of Boston, Mass. This model was first produced in 1943. It has a 12 jewel, 8 day Chelsea 12E movement with a 11 jewel detachable lever escapement, sweep second hand. Fully wound these should tick for 8 days. It is mounted in a dust proof and moisture proof black phenolic case with a 6" dial. It features a an hour, minute and second hand as well as another hand for a second time zone which is slaved to the hour hand. The time is set by moving the hands forward with you finger. You should not move them backward as that will damage the movement.

The face reads as follows:

U.S. ARMY
CLOCK, MESSAGE CENTER, M2

This excellent example is mounted in an Army issue wood carrying box complete with leather carry strap and clasps. The box is serial numbered 629762. This matches the markings on the back of the phenolic clock housing:

629762
CHELSEA CLOCK CO.
BOSTON

Clock face measures 6 inches in diameter. The box measures 9" W x 4.5" D x 10" H, and still is in very good condition, and closes securely. The shoulder strap is only partly present, and the original winding key is missing, so we cannot verify that it is currently functional, however the key can be easily sourced.

The US Army used these from WW2 to the Vietnam War and were used in the field to mark the time when a message was received. Would make a perfect clock for your desk at work or at home!
