Original U.S. WWII Early Airborne Schrade M2 Knife with Jigged Bone Handle & End Loop

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of a rare Early-War issue M2 Paratrooper pocket knife with "jigged bone" grip scales. These are very difficult to find in any condition, as they were quickly replaced with the plastic and then metal scaled version. This example shows only light wear and retains a nice sharp edge still. It also has the end loop or "bale", used to secure a lanyard that would keep the knife from falling to the ground if dropped.

The knife is fully functional, and is marked on the bottom of the blade ricasso as follows:

SCHRADE
CUT. CO.
WALDEN N.Y.

The other side is marked:

U.S. PATS.
DEC. 21. 09.
SEPT. 13,10
JUNE 6,16

These blade markings definitely identify it as a WWII version, and it bears the desirable "jigged bone" handles. This example measures 7 ¼” when open, with the blade measuring 3". Closed it measures 4 inches long. The blade does show sharpening and cleaning, but still has the correct shape. There are no edge nicks, dents, or other issues. It is still quite sharp, so handle with care.

A fantastic lightly used example, just how we like to see them!

Dimensions:
Blade length: 3”

Worn in the breast pocket of the Paratrooper M2 Jump Jacket these knives were intended for paratroopers to cut there parachute cords and anything else if they got entangled during a jump. Genuine examples, such as this, are exceedingly rare and hard to find. For further research checkout this forum post about these knives and how to tell WWII knives from post war.
