Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a tremendous example of a Newsmap training poster prepared and distributed by the Army Orientation Course, Special Service Division, Army Service Forces, War Department. This poster offered a grim reminder about the dangers of leaking confidential information in letters home. It specifies what not to write in letters & how slipping up can aid the enemy. The other side of the poster features a Newsmap update on the war. The poster measures roughly 34½ x 47”.
The first side of the poster features a letter written home with the incorrect spelling Dere Mable to insinuate this soldier’s lack of education and tendency to forgo confidential information without realizing it, as he includes his division, location, number of men in his unit, and where his brother is going, on what ship, and when. This is a very informational poster that would’ve given soldiers a stark reminder about the dangers of “loose lips”.
The other side of this poster features a Newsmap war update for the date of May 3rd, 1943. This side features written updates on the six different fronts of the war, including a map with updated boundaries, and some photographs. This is a very attractive poster and would look fantastic displayed from either side! This is one we haven’t had an example of before, so don’t miss out! More than ready for further research and display.
