Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding artifact of the Doolittle Raid. This 9 x 12” plaque displays a small fragment of aircraft material engraved DR7, taken from the B-25 SN: 40-2261 “Ruptured Duck” in 1990 during the Doolittle Raiders China Expedition led by Bryan Moon. Three weeks into the expedition, they found and retrieved an armor plate from behind the seat of Doolittle’s lead bomber, small pieces of the No. 7 bomber, and more sections from the No. 3 bomber.
This is a small fragment from the No. 7 bomber “Ruptured Duck”. This B-25 bombed Tokyo on April 18th, 1942. This aircraft was captained by Ted Lawson who later wrote the book “30 Seconds Over Tokyo”. This and the movie of the same title featured No. 7 Doolittle B-25. Following the raid on Tokyo, this B-25 reached China where it made a forced landing near the island of Nantien.
This plaque is of a limited edition set, numbered 12/50. The back of the plaque has two attached photographs of Lieutenant Colonel Dick Cole, a Co-Pilot with Crew #1 of the Doolittle Raiders, holding this plaque.
