Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is the outstanding A-2 Jacket, crusher pilot’s cap, dog tag, headset, and ephemera grouping of C-47 Skytrain Pilot Lt. Robert Marshall Weisbrod, who flew for the 95th Troop Carrier Squadron, 440th Troop Carrier Group during World War II, and famously dropped men of the 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division into Carentan on June 6th, 1944 during the Normandy Invasion. The group came from Weisbrod’s estate and some pieces are in rough condition, but everything together will make for an outstanding display.
The group consists of:
- Weisbrod’s A-2 leather flight jacket which is in rough condition now. Both knit cuffs have been removed and there is heavy wear across. There was originally a squadron patch on the left breast as well which is now gone. The liner is the original but there is tearing. His wings on the left breast are now extremely worn and the nametag has been torn off. The original label reads:
TYPE A-2
DRAWING NO. 30-45
AC. CONTRACT NO. W535ac28560
POUGHKEEPSIE LEATHER
COAT CO. INC.
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.
PROPERTY
AIR FORCE, U.S. ARMY
Not the best example of an A-2 but it came from the estate and was certainly his. The squadron patch would have depicted a pelican carrying paratroopers in a basket surrounded by anti-aircraft explosions. The zipper is faintly marked TALON with some oxidation, but it still works.
- Weisbrod’s H3/APR-3 headset with an intact cord.
- Weisbrod’s U.S. Army Officer’s AAF Crusher cap “Flighter” by Bancroft. Good shape overall with real “crusher” construction.
- B-8 Polaroid flying goggles with their original labeled spare lenses case.
- Throat microphone T-30-V with elastic band.
- Pilot’s scarf.
- Flight Aviator sunglasses.
- Riker case with faux Army shirt chest with 6-place ribbon bar, two Officer’s cap badges, various insignia, a reproduction Airborne Troop Carrier patch, and Weisbrod’s enlisted dog tag. These pieces look outstanding displayed in this way.
- Original fabric embroidered Airborne Troop Carrier patch.
- French-printed map of Paris, France.
- Modern map of France with annotation showing where Weisbrod dropped 506th PIR troops on D-Day.
- Book “The Douglas DC-3”.

This is a fantastic group to a C-47 pilot who dropped men of the 101st Airborne into Normandy! Ready to become a centerpiece of any WWII collection.
