Original U.S. WWII Collins "Legitimus" Jeep Axe with WWI Leather Carrier by Graton & Knight

Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice "Jeep Axe", one of the many tools and other items routinely attached to the WWII Jeep, which would be either a Willys MB or Ford GPW. Officially called called the "U.S. Army Truck, 1⁄4-ton, 4×4, Command Reconnaissance", the Jeep was useful in a multitude of situations, and had attachment points for all kinds of equipment. They could even be customized with machine gun mounts and other equipment.
The axe however was standard equipment due to the large number of uses they had. Unfortunately they are quite useful during life in general, and WWII Issue axes are very hard to find, most having been used and discarded after decades of use. This example did not suffer that fate, and looks to have seen moderate service during the war, after which it was put into storage.
The axe head itself is marked with the Collins logo near the poll/butt end, as were all blades they made:

The other side of the butt is marked with a large U.S.. The head is in good used condition, still retaining a lot of the original OD green paint, with wear around the edge from use. The edge is somewhat dull, but shows no major dents or other defects.
On the top flap of the carrier is the maker and date information:

G.&K. is the marking of Graton & Knight Manufacturing Co., Worcester, Massachusetts, who also made many holsters during WWI. The leather carrier is in very good condition, and the leather looks almost unissued. It was most likely in storage until the start of WWII, when it was reissued with the Jeep Axe. It does have a gear in the bottom, and the leather around the studs has deteriorated a bit. There is also some cracking in the leather securing strap.
Overall this is a great chance to own a classic U.S. Military Axe, complete with the original carrier!
