Original U.S. WWII Collins & Co. Legitimus Long Jungle Machete with Leather Scabbard by BoyT - dated 1942

Item Description

Original Items: Only one available. These long machetes are extremely rare on today's market. Made by Collins & Co. of Hartford, Conn, this is a LEGITIMUS model long jungle machete. The Machete has an impressive overall length of 23 1/2 inches, with a straight 18 inch Bush/Collins machete shape blade. The blade is about 2 1/8 inches wide at the thickest point. The ricasso is nicely marked:

U.S.
(Collins Emblem)
LEGITIMUS
COLLINS & CO.
1942

The blade is in very good condition, thought it does show some use and staining. It has been sharpened several times, so this was a machete that did not spent its life in the scabbard. The dark brown hard plastic grip is in very good condition, with the expected wear of age, and all the rivets are solidly attached. It also has a nice leather wrist strap to prevent losing the machete in wet conditions.

The machete comes with a very nice issue hard leather belt scabbard. The back is marked on the belt hanger with U S / BOYT / 42, indicating 1942 manufacture by Boyt Harness Co of Des Moines Iowa, a major leather goods supplier during WWII. They made various slings, holsters, scabbards, and other items for the war. There is some wear and damage to the leather, but overall it definitely looks good for having been through a war.

An very nice WWII dated Collins Legitimus machete, ready to display!
