Compact gasoline stoves of this type became an important part of American field equipment during WWII, giving soldiers a practical way to heat rations, boil water, and prepare hot drinks without relying on a larger field kitchen. Their small size, folding supports, and self contained fuel system made them particularly useful for troops operating away from fixed facilities. This example shows clear U.S. military markings on both the stove and canister and has the strong service worn appearance expected of field equipment that may have remained in use well after 1945.

Coleman had already become a major American manufacturer of lanterns and portable outdoor equipment before WWII, making the company and related wartime contractors natural suppliers of compact field stoves for military use.

The basic concept was simple but extremely practical. A small pressurized gasoline burner could be carried in a compact container, unfolded when needed, and used wherever troops had access to suitable fuel. These stoves were especially valuable for soldiers operating in small groups, vehicle crews, communications personnel, and others who could not always depend upon a centralized kitchen.

The burner adjustment also remains movable, although we have not disassembled the stove to determine whether the internal needle remains present and intact.

Because of the missing fuel cap and the fact that the stove has not been tested, it is offered strictly as a historical collectible and display piece rather than as functioning camping equipment.

The metal surfaces show age, use, and storage wear consistent with original WWII field gear.

Equipment like this was often retained long after the war ended. Compact gasoline stoves remained useful for training, field exercises, reserve service, surplus issue, and civilian use, so surviving examples frequently show years of handling beyond their original wartime production date.
