Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very rough and cut-down example of the U.S. Civil War issue Model 1840 Musicians sword. This example is void of any maker markings due to the very heavy wear and alterations. The blade has been cut down to just 9 ⅞”. Additionally, the guard has been cut away, and the hilt appears to have been nickel-plated, though there is heavy wear showing the brass underneath.
The overall length is now 16 ⅛”, and there is very heavy wear across. The blade has some scattered oxidation and what looks to be copper embellishments, a strange detail. The fighting knife shows heavy use and wear overall.
A very interesting Civil War issue musician’s sword, later used as a fighting knife during WWII. Ready for display.
Approx. Measurements:
Blade Length: 9 7/8"
Overall length: 16 ⅛”
