Original U.S. WWII Civil Air Patrol Coastal Patrol Pilot’s Uniform Group with Officer’s Visor & Garrison Caps

Original Item. Only One Set Available. In January 1942, German submarines began attacking merchant vessels along the East Coast. With the military unable to respond in force, the Civil Air Patrol established coastal patrol flights to deter, report and prevent enemy operations.
From March 1942 through August 1943, armed CAP aircraft at 21 coastal patrol bases extending from Maine to the Mexican border patrolled the waters off the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Their success in thwarting submarine attacks and safeguarding shipping lanes led President Franklin D. Roosevelt to issue Executive Order 9339 on April 29, 1943, transferring CAP from the Office of Civilian Defense to the Department of War.
This is a very scarce uniform grouping to a 2nd Lieutenant Pilot in the Civil Air Patrol with a very scarce Coastal Patrol cuff badge and CAP insignia buttons. This small black embroidered badge depicts an aerial bomb landing on an enemy submarine. The uniform has no name we could find. It consists of the uniform jacket with 2nd Lieutenant bars on the shoulders, a CAP patch on the left shoulder, Aviation and CAP collar insignia, and a scarce set of Sterling CAP pilot’s wings. The coastal patrol badge is on the left cuff.
Also included is a large garrison cap with officer’s piping, a 2nd Lt bar on the left side, and a CAP badge on the right. There is also a tan officer’s visor cap with a large CAP winged badge. There is a partial size tag for 6 ¾, and the visor was made by William C. Rowland Uniforms of Philadelphia.
The uniform group also includes a belt for the jacket, a tan shirt, trousers, and a tie for the shirt. There is a name in the shirt, P.E. Fidler, PA, a good research opportunity.
This is a very rare set to find so complete, and would look tremendous all together on a mannequin. Ready for further research and display!
