Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a Normandy D-Day invasion set given to American officers. The set consists of the following items:
- Original 1943 paper map that reads: GSGS 4347 Map France 1:25000 Cherbourg Sheet 31/22 SW Edition of July 1943. Map is offered in excellent condition with correct fold creases.
- U.S. Government Printing Office 1944 Edition Pocket Guide to Paris and Cities of Northern France offered in excellent condition. "About the only thing in this booklet that can he guaranteed is the terrain. The rest of it is up to the fortunes or misfortunes of war. Many of the towns and cities described here have been bombed and shelled by us as we approached, and shelled by the enemy as he retreated. And many of them will still show the marks of the destruction visited upon them when these lands were being conquered and occupied by the Germans."
- U.S. War Department Restricted Issue No. TM 30-602. September 1943 Edition French Phrase Book offered in very good condition. The book contains the French words and expressions that were most likely to be needed by those serving in wartime situations. French, at the time, was spoken by more than 40 million people in France and by some 12 million in Belgium, Switzerland and in the French and Belgian colonies. In the book, all the words are written in a spelling which is to be read like English. Each letter or combination of letters is used for the sound it usually stands for in English and it ALWAYS stands for that sound. For ease of use, the Table of Contents lists the situations covered by the book. A helpful Index gives the English word, its French pronunciation, and the French spelling.
This was a very important invasion set for American officers, a set that is seldom seen as so many were lost, destroyed and discarded. Obtained from a WW2 veteran's estate.
