  • Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. The Caterpillar Club is an informal association of people who have successfully used a parachute to bail out of a disabled aircraft. After authentication by the parachute maker, applicants receive a membership certificate and a distinctive lapel pin. The nationality of the person whose life was saved by parachute and ownership of the aircraft are not factors in determining qualification for membership; anybody whose life was saved by using a parachute after bailing out of a disabled aircraft is eligible. The requirement that the aircraft is disabled naturally excludes parachuting enthusiasts in the normal course of a recreational jump, or those involved in military training jumps.

This is a fantastic ephemera grouping to Sergeant Samuel Hullum, a Bombardier in the 9th Air Force during World War II. On August 10th, 1944, Hullum had to bail out of his aircraft and became a member of the Caterpillar Club. The group includes his original pin and membership card, a gorgeous bullion patch, and much more.

    This fantastic group includes:
    - Hullum’s dog tags, set of three, one with NOK info.
    - AAF Autograph book mostly filled out with notes written to Sam by comrades. There are some fantastic messages written, and this small book certainly contains a great deal of soldier culture.
    - Gorgeous 9th Air Force bullion patch, fabulous embroidery work.
    - Sterling Bombardier Wings, pinback.
    - Great Stencil of his name for equipment, HULLUM, S.
    - Ribbon bar with Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with 2 Bronze OLC and 1 Silver OLC, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with three campaign stars.
    - Extremely rare Caterpillar Club enamel pin, marked ROCH. N.Y. STERLING on the back.
    - Caterpillar Club card with name and information, dated August 10th, 1944.
    - AAF Pilot and Crew Member Physical Record card, named to Hullum and filled out.
    - Soldier’s Individual Pay Record book, named and filled out.
    - Hullum’s vaccination record.
    - Uniform nametag, S. Hullum.
    - Small file photograph of Hullum, great addition.
    - Printout of Hullum’s Air Medal award dates.

A fantastic group, ready for further research and display.
