Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a tremendous boot trench knife that was manufactured and issued in Imperial Germany during World War I, was reissued during World War II, and was captured by an American G.I., Lawrence K. Webb, who constructed a custom scabbard for it. The knife comes with Webb’s collar discs and a Certificate of Retention and Customs Declaration providing every bit of provenance needed!
The knife is an Imperial German manufactured “boot” or trench knife with a sharpened blade that has lost its original markings. The grip is the proper WWI style with ribbed slits. Some of the verdigris from the scabbard has attached itself to the grip as shown.
The scabbard is custom made with a Remington UMC snap to secure the knife. The two pieces of leather are held together by leather ringlets, seven of which have been lost and replaced with metal wire. The metal wire is old enough to have a good bit of veridigris on it. The leather on the securing strap is very weak, so please advise with extreme caution when operating the snap.
The two collar discs are the proper gilt style, for U.S. and Field Artillery. The Certificate of Retention and Customs Declaration names the soldier, Private First Class Lawrence K. Webb, serial number, 33762847, and his arm, Artillery. The items he brought back included 1 Belgian pistol cal 7.65 #206500 and “1 German Knife”. The document is dated September 23rd, 1945, when Webb returned to the United States. The document measures 8 x 13”.
This is a phenomenal piece of WWI & WWII history, sure to fit perfectly in any WWII Collection. Comes ready for further research and display!
