Original U.S. WWII Captured 98k Bayonet Turned Fighting Knife by Richard Herder of Solingen with USN Mk2 Scabbard

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting German 98k bayonet which was captured by an American soldier and cut down for use as a fighting knife. The knife is contained within a USN Mark 2 Scabbard.
The ricasso still bears a very faint maker code clc for manufacture by Richard Abraham Herder of Solingen, the legendary "City of Blades" in the mountains of Eastern Germany. The other side is stamped 64. The pommel was also cut down so it could no longer be used as a bayonet. The blade has been cut down to roughly 6½”, in a sort of Bowie style.
The Mark 2 scabbard is in rough condition with the throat showing heavy oxidation, but still being marked U.S.N. MK. 2 on one side, and NORD - 4723 / B.M. Co. with a stylized V P logo on the other. The webbing is rough but intact, as is the securing strap and snap.
