Original U.S. WWII Bullet Struck McCord Front Seam Swivel Bale M1 Helmet With Museum Tag - Ground Dug During French Reconstruction Ca 1960

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This helmet is an incredible relic that we have to offer! It was claimed to have been dug up from the ground in France during reconstruction efforts in the 1960s. What makes this shell unique is that it bears a genuine small-caliber bullet impact on the front center, with the appearance of not having been used for target practice making this an exceptional offer.

In the 1960s, following the aftermath of World War II, France embarked on a significant journey of physical and cultural reconstruction. During this period, under the guidance of President Charles de Gaulle (1959–1969), the French Fifth Republic played a pivotal role in revitalizing the nation's identity and restoring France to its former status as a major global power.

The helmet itself is in relic condition as you can see from the photos, but it carries on with it the echoes of war. There are evident signs that the soldier that once donned this helmet was in the thick of it during the battle. The front of the shell has a small bullet impact, which we believe to be period as this shell sat in the earth for many years after WWII. The paint is retained poorly however the cork grain is still widely visible. The interior of the helmet has the expected extensive pitting as a result of sitting in the ground for a few decades. There are small rust holes present but the steel is still solid enough to where it does not feel brittle in the rusted areas.

An incredible helmet that comes more than ready for further research and display.
