Original Item. Only One Available. This is an excellent set of British-made bullion U.S. AAF Aircrew wings, directly-embroidered onto a 1 ½ x 4 ⅜” blue field. This is often referred to as a “Combat Box”, which signified that the individual was an active AAF member in theater.

The bullion work is excellent, and the back is pasted over with black cloth, correct for the period. The wings depict an American eagle in the center, for Aircrew wear. 

Anyone trained in flight operations was authorized to wear this badge, including pilots, bombardiers, navigators, flight engineers, radio men and gunners. The badge was also awarded to certain ground personnel at the discretion of their commanding officer. Non-crewmembers eligible for the badge were individuals with flying status such as aircraft maintenance supervisors and technical inspectors.
