Original Item: Only One Available. This is an very good example of an original U.S. Army musette bag, manufactured in Great Britain during WWII. The bag is of OD Green #3 canvas canvas construction, with slightly lighter tan trim. It is U.S. marked on the top flap. This unique piece of equipment can be worn as a knapsack or shoulder bag, and this example seems to have been set up as the former, as it has combat suspenders attached to it, though the rigging seems to be somewhat improvised, and possibly attached upside down at present.
The musette bag is maker marked and dated on the inside:
M.E.Co. 1944
BRITISH MADE
Mills Equipment Company was the British Arm of the American Mills Company, which had introduced Cotton Webbing based equipment for the U.S. Army. In 1908 they had worked with the British Army to introduce the 1908 Pattern equipment, and worked with the British Military ever since. During WWII, they also started making equipment for U.S. forces, who were based in Britain prior to the D-Day Invasion..
The bag is in great shape, showing only light wear, with all of the snaps and buckles working, with just a bit of oxidation on the fittings. The suspenders are a bit more worn, with some fraying and added rivets, so this was definitely a personalized setup.
Some very nice field gear from WWII, ready to add to the collection!
