  • Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Wartime nostalgia at its best! Written on blue ink BING CROSBY HOLLYWOOD stationary measuring 7 x 10 is the following letter:

    June 30, 1944

    Dear Miss Hope:

Due to material shortages, I'm not

going to be able to send out any more photos

for the duration. It's almost impossible to

obtain photo stock envelopes or card boards

and I 'm saving what we have to take care of

the requests of the boys and girls in the

    different services.

I'm sure you'll bear with me in this

until Victory is ours, and we can settle down

    again in peaceful living.

Our next picture is "Going My Way.

Leo McCarey is the director, and Burke and

Van Heusen, whose Dixie tunes are doing so

    well, wrote the score.

    Yours for VICTORY

    [signed]

    Bing Crosby

Nice to see even our wartime idols cared about the GIs. Totally genuine and correct in every way.
