  • Original Item: Only One Available. Very good condition rare WWII Browning .50 Caliber machine gun extra ammunition box for aircraft. Research indicates this was an extra ammo box that was used in the nose and tail sections of the B-17, B-24 and B-25 Bombers. Also known as a Tail Turret Ammunition Box on a B-24 Liberator these were stacked just aft of the waist gun position and fed the tail turret via a long rigid feed chute.

It is made of phenolic plastic and aluminum with a canvas handle. The box was made by New Plastic Corp. of Los Angeles which changed its name to NUPLA in 1941 after being sold to one of the executives. Since it has both names on the box, it puts it in the WWII era of manufacture. New Plastics Corporation also is the company that developed phenolic plastic so this is most likely the first company that made these boxes.

    The box measures 15.5"L x 6"W x 11"H.

This is a wonderful piece of WWII Aviation history!
