Item Description
Original Item: One-Of-A-Kind. Trench art is any decorative item made by soldiers, prisoners of war, or civilians where the manufacture is directly linked to armed conflict or its consequences. It offers an insight not only to their feelings and emotions about the war, but also their surroundings and the materials they had available to them. This is a great example with bullets turned into a bomber, mounted on a shell attached to a brass base with indents for use as an ashtray. Like all deactivated ordnance, this piece is Not Available for Export.
This stupendous piece of trench art measures roughly 10” tall from the base to the tip of the bomber’s wing. The base itself has a diameter of 6⅛”. The shell can be unscrewed from the base to show its markings, 20mm-Mk2 1942. This dates the piece to World War II. The projectile is stamped very faintly MAE 20mm Mk3 Mod.12 1944. The bomber, which is welded together from cartridge pieces, is at a slant and screws into the tip of the shell. All pieces are in great condition and this will still function well as an ashtray.
This is a really stunning piece of trench art ready for display.
