Original U.S. WWII Australian Made M1918 Trench Knife Style Brass Knuckle Trench Knife With Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Trench knives, also called knuckle knives, were created to use in close quarters combat, during WWI, when the fighting was taking place primarily in the trenches. They became important weapons in a style of warfare that depended on overtaking an enemy’s trench line. Both the Allied and Axis forces continued to use them during WWII and improved on the original design as seen here.

Soldiers and Marines on leave or R&R in Australia often sought out adding more equipment to their personal arsenals, most of which were edged weapons. This example was definitely professionally made as there is a serial number (2367) stamped into the crossguard. The hilt of the knife appears to be a sand cast copy of the famed M1918 trench knife and is in lovely condition. The casting was done nearly perfect and you can only see the minor imperfections present in isolated areas. The leather scabbard is the standard Australian Commando style with a pistol belt hook attachment method on the back as well as a belt loop. The leather is in great, solid condition and is without damage.

Truly a wonderful example of a “private purchase” knuckle knife. Comes more than ready for further research and display.
