Original Item: One Set Only. This is a very nice U.S ARMY FLAG KIT, as noted on the khaki canvas case for the set. This is a standard set of signal flags, and contains flags for the two basic types of flag telegraphy used: Semaphore and "Wigwag".
This kit consists of:
- One Pair of Red/White Semaphore flags mounted to wooden poles. Each flag measures approximately 16" x 16", and is mounted to a 24" long wooden pole
- Two "Wigwag" flags measuring approximately 24" x 24", one with a red square on a white field, and one with a white square on a red field. These are the two most popular colors, and the flag choice was determined by the time of day and background
- One Three piece brass pole for use with the "wigwag" flags. it has two rotating flag grommets, and measures 66" long (5.5ft) when assembled.
The two forms of flag telegraphy each have their own pros and cons. Semaphore can communicate more quickly, however the range is more limited. "Wigwag" is slower, but can be read over a longer distance, as it is much more based on the movement of the flag, and not the orientation of the arms. This also means that "wigwag" can be used at night with a torch as well.
